How You Can Support the 2026 Reunion in 2020

In 2016, the descendants of Hans Schmidt (1594-1680), the shepherd of the Werra Valley in Hesse, Germany, reunited. Mostly the offspring of those branches who had immigrated to America, these hundreds of relatives gathered in the city of Spencer, Iowa, breaking the record for the largest reunion ever held in the state of Iowa.

On July 25-26, 2026, we are planning to reunite again. With numerous, new branches of the family that have been discovered in the last several years, we hope to break the Guinness World Record for the largest family reunion on Earth.

This will involve a lot of work over the next six years, as the Guinness World Record organization has stringent requirements. An up-to-date family log will have to be assembled, listing all of the new descendants and spouses who have joined our family since 2016. Attendees will need to bring a copy of their birth certificate and marriage certificate to the reunion to show to one of the verifying officials. We will also need to raise a bit of money in order to rent the facilities where we can safely and comfortably gather.

Some ways you can help now include:

So, corral your siblings, cousins, uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces, gather up the family stories and photos, get ready to have a great time. The year 2026 seems like a long way away, but it will be here before you know it.
