The next Schmidt mega-reunion will be held in Spencer, Iowa on the weekend of July 25-26, 2026. This gives us six years to reunite all descendants of Hans Schmidt (1594-1680), the shepherd of the Werra Valley, whose offspring populated the Hessian villages of Nentershausen, Blankenbach, and Machtlos, before many of them immigrated to America in the 1800s. The last time we gathered, in 2016, we became the largest family reunion ever held in the state of Iowa. In 2026, we hope to gather over 5,000 relatives, thereby breaking the Guinness World Record for largest family reunion on Earth.
Stay tuned over the coming months and years for more details on our reunion as it comes together.
